Career planning

Career planning is essential to achieving success in your chosen career. You will go further if you know in advance where you are headed and what you need to do to get there. Ask yourself some key questions: What are my long-term objectives? What will I get out of my job in the next 5 years? What are my life priorities?

Start by setting an ambitious but achievable long-term goal. For example, within 10 years I want to be self-employed, working part-time in a marketing event organiser role.

Next, using a timeline, map the steps you’ll have to take to get there. Include personal milestones, such as timing of children, overseas stints, and so on. You may need to undertake further study, training, or personal development. Your career blueprint should be updated, as your priorities and circumstances change.

Making the decision to move

Job-hunting is time consuming and disruptive. JRS long experience in matching people to the right roles can help reduce the effort in helping you move on.

We will help you identify your talents and goals. Questions we can advise you on include: Is there a career path in this company for me? Will I advance further if I move? Can I and should I change careers? Are my core skills transferable to a new path? What sort of re-training can I do? What is the perfect match for my values? JRS can advise you on these matters and arrange a training consultation to explore training options to fill skill gaps.

Alternatively, you can decide to stay put in your current role and build a life outside your job. Your passion may be a hobby, travel, or you may wish to volunteer.
